New Sculpture: The Golem and the Grave (SOLD)

“When you were young you were afraid of ghosts, and when you were aged you called them to you.”
― Alice Hoffman, The World That We Knew

I've always loved the story of the golem, a Jewish creature made of clay given life to protect those in need.

Like the golems in the stories, this golem has the word for "truth" inscribed in Hebrew on her forehead (emet). To dismiss a golem, one need only remove the letter alef, thus transforming truth to death. You may unravel this golem's story if you look closely at the details surrounding her.

This is a hefty piece that weighs 12.5 lbs. She stands approximately 13" tall.

Side Note: After I finished this sculpture, I read Alice Hoffman's latest book The World That We Knew, a story that involves a golem given to protect a young Jewish girl during WWII. It's worth reading.
